Man attempts to offer namaz inside Ayodhya's Ram Mandir, detained

A man from Kashmir was taken into custody on Friday after he allegedly attempted to offer namaz inside the high-security Ram Mandir complex in Ayodhya, raising concerns among security agencies, reports said.

Officials identified the man as Ahmed Sheikh, a 55-year-old resident of Shopian district in Kashmir. He reportedly entered the temple premises, visited the shrine, and later sat near the Sita Rasoi area, where he was allegedly preparing to offer namaz.

Temple security personnel noticed his actions and intervened immediately. He was detained by the security staff and later handed over to the local police for questioning. Some claims suggest that he allegedly raised slogans when stopped, though this has not been officially confirmed.

Police said intelligence agencies are questioning the man to determine his intent. Authorities are also verifying his travel details, including the purpose of his visit to Ayodhya and whether anyone else was involved in the incident.

During preliminary checks, police reportedly recovered items such as cashews and raisins from his possession. The incident comes as Ayodhya prepares for Makar Sankranti celebrations and ahead of the second anniversary of the Ram Temple consecration on January 22, prompting a review of security arrangements.
